Day 17
5/31/ 2024
Jim Boy’s for breakfast, then off to see Doris Van Horn and Sandy, her daughter-in-law.
Doris is one of Mom’s friends that she met square dancing. She and Roland took Mom under their wing and just had a blast together. I think they did square dancing, line dancing, western dancing and they may have been there when Bob popped into the picture.
There was a corner bar near where Mom lived at the time, and they played country western music. I don’t remember if it was live or Memorex, but I do remember Mom saying how much she fun she had. And then one night, in came Bob. Mom always said he told her right away he was going to marry her someday…
At my last visit to Doris I was wearing my Christmas jacket. I made it out of a sweatshirt which I cut apart at the seams and then paper pieced Christmas fabric to the sweatshirt parts. Once done, I sewed it back together with an open front and bound the edges. She liked it so much she asked if I would make her one. So, I did. She loved it.
Doris is a hoot and a flirt, so when her door was locked on the way in, we had to get Neal, a very handsome high muckety-muck at the home, to let us in. Doris flirted unmercifully. Nothing would do, but for him to reach in for a hug and kiss, but as he did this, Doris reached out to feel his chin to see if he was freshly shaved. Apparently not, he swore he shaved that morning, but would from here on out shave before coming to see her again.
I was next up, and she recognized me. I will forever be “Jean Raye’s daughter” to Doris and I love that. We chatted and had a great time with Sandy. In the end, we decided we needed picture with Doris, me and the Jacket. As we were posing, Sandy tried to get Doris to smile, no luck. I got a smile out of her when I suggested that she might want to be a cougar. And an even bigger smile when I suggested we be cougars together!
After that Sandy, Denise, and I laughed all the way to our first Thrift store of the day. It was a new one to Sandy, suggested by one of her Thrifty friends. Great place, good finds! We hit 2 more after than and rounded out the day with Chris, Sandy’s husband, BBQing chicken and asparagus for us. Wow! It was good!!!
We got some great pics of the beginning and ending to our day. It was fabulous!!!
Back at the trailer, I kept saying, tomorrow is pole dancing. What was I thinking? What am I doing? Will I survive this? We will see cause I’m doing it!!!
