Day 60

7/9/2024 to 7/14/2024

I made it home today.  It was a mad dash from Ontario Oregon at 106 degrees.  I was headed to Ontario for the night and then on to Boise to see my Aunt Laura, Cousin David, Cousin Dawn and Bob.  But when we stopped at a rest stop to let the kids out, Milo tiptoed over the asphalt to the desert sand, but Abigail just about melted to the pavement.  It was frightening!

At that point, I contacted everyone we were supposed to visit on the way home and cancelled.  Abigail looked pitiful.

When I got to Pocatello ID the next evening, I was ready to take her into the vet.  Luckily the next day when I made arrangements to stay a 2nd night, the lady at the campground was able to give me a bit of advice which changed our lives.  She had a Dane/Lab mix who was acting just like Abigail and she was advised by her vet to give her dog CBD.

After running around town to find a CBD store, I took a wrong turn right into a vape shop.  The lady there was nice and very knowledgeable.  She hooked me up and I went home and dosed Abigail immediately.

Within 30 minutes, Abigail was a new dog!!!

We took out of Pocatello the next morning and got as far as Rawlins WY for the night.  Beautiful place, high desert, very lovely.

From Rawlins WY to Wood River NE.  I was in a hurry and didn’t pull in to vamp until after 6pm…  The guy at the Firefly Meadows RV Park took pity on us and let us stay.  Great place, green with beautiful trees and we were right at the edge of the park next to some hay fields.  He told me if I took the dogs out in the field, I wouldn’t have to clean up after them.  Score… but he also told me if I stepped in anything while we were out there, he knew nothing.  Hahaha…

We were on the road at 6 am the next day and onward to Lincoln NE.  This is where we turned South.  I gotta say this is where the barn sour mule in me kicked in, big time.

We pulled into Memphis at a friend’s house at 11:30 pm.  I opened all the windows in the trailer and put the dogs in, but at that time it was 73 degrees with not even a wisp of wind.  By 2 am, the dogs were panting so hard, the trailer was rocking, and it woke me up.

I was supposed to stay for coffee and breakfast, but the temperature was already rising, and the dogs weren’t going to make it.

Ultimately, we pulled into my yard, got unhooked, plugged the trailer in so the fridge would keep everything cold and headed back to Mom’s house.  We were in the door by 6 am and all of us were sound asleep by 6:15.

Feels good to be home again!

Thank you everyone for making this trip with me!  I’ll be filling in the blanks over the next few days.

Love you all!!!
