Day 6
Lovely, quiet, easy day today.
Started with breakfast at Rutherford’s Family Diner on historic Route 66. It was great!
Then we decided to take a trip out of town on the 40 west to find a wash where Denise could hunt some rocks. We found one. I stayed in the truck and watched out for her while she took Mom’s cane, to beet the bushes for snakes, and gathered rocks.
Up until today, she had been picking relatively small rocks. No bigger than a quarter. Today, we graduated to fist sized rocks. When she got back to the car, I wondered why she didn’t just hop in, until I watched her empty every pocket, front and back. There must have been 10 or more good sized rocks, I’m not sure how her pants didn’t fall off on the side of the road.
We went out about 15 miles and then turned around at the first opportunity. I spied a good pile on the way back too, so over we went. This time she pulled a huge rock. It was about 8” in diameter and 3 or 4” tall.
New rule, if you can’t pick it up yourself, you can’t have it. So far, so good.
Years ago, Paul and I used to go 4 wheeling outside of Auburn CA. One time, as we were sitting in the water, I spied a great rock that I thought would be perfect for that spot in the front yard. Haha. It took both of us at least an hour to get it across the stream. And then we had to back the Toyota into the stream so that we could use the buoyancy of the water to help us get that rock into the bed of the truck. Hence the rule. Not going there again. And besides, there isn’t that much water here.
Then, on to Thrifting. We hit 4 of the 20 thrift stores in town today and went in a weird circle until I was all turned around. Back to listening to that woman again.
Tomorrow, we are heading out to the Grand Canyon, first thing. Ok, after breakfast at the Rutherford, 😉.
